The firm’s water business assists industry, communities and government agencies alike with an integrated approach to sourcing, developing and managing water resources to maximize their investments and maintain water quality and security. The Water business is active globally and constantly expanding their geographical and market footprint. The business employs approximately 300 people (excluding design, delivery and project management) serving customers across municipal, state and federal governments, mining & metals, utilities, renewable power providers etc. etc. etc.

Scope of Position

Our client is creating an exciting new role to provide leadership and take responsibility for the growth and operational management of Water management and Treatment in support of industrial water projects within the Industrial Water group.  The focus will be on mining/metals, desalination, and/or data centers. This role involves technical leadership, project management, team development, and client engagement, with a focus on advanced water treatment systems.

This role is focused on growing the overall practice through the development of external facing new business opportunities, as well as in collaboration with other service areas within our client through cross-selling. The successful candidate will be expected to proactively grow market share (i.e., sell) in the mining water services area.

Our client’s leaders perform in a seller-doer-manager role and you will be part of the global water management team. The company’s overall senior leadership team will be available to support the individual in achieving the above objectives.

Functional Tasks

  • Promote our client’s Industrial Water services across the Industrial Water Sector.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for planning, hydraulic design, and detailed engineering.
  • Support and lead business development activities, including proposals, client engagement, and strategic positioning in the U.S. market.
  • Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers, fostering a high-performance team culture.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (metals, oil/gas, power, delivery group, etc).
  • Lead and contribute to engineering studies, condition assessments, alternatives analysis, and design reports.
  • Ensure quality assurance and technical excellence across all project phases.
  • Interface with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
  • Explore and implement innovative water management solutions.

Preferred Experience / Education

The following indicates specific industry, academic and functional experience and qualifications that are important to the successful achievement of the identified responsibilities and performance deliverables:

  • 20+ years of experience in Industrial Water within Mining/Metals, Desalination, and/or Data Centers.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in US or Canada;
  • Proven technical expertise in mine water management and treatment, including hands on experience with advanced water treatment technologies such as ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, ion exchange, evaporation/crystallization, and related process systems.
  • Deep understanding of the full water value chain within the metals and mining sector, spanning mining operations, mineral processing, smelting/refining, and downstream manufacturing. Experience integrating water strategies across these stages is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement water management strategies that address regulatory compliance, water reuse/recycling, environmental stewardship, and operational efficiency.
  • Strong background in designing, evaluating, and optimizing water treatment systems for complex mine waters, including high TDS brines, acid mine drainage, tailings water, and process effluents.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with process, environmental, geotechnical, and infrastructure groups to deliver integrated water solutions for large scale mining projects.
  • Familiarity with permitting frameworks, ESG drivers, and sustainability expectations relevant to water in the metals/mining industry.
  • Client facing leadership skills, with a track record of building relationships, shaping scopes of work, and delivering high quality technical outcomes.
  • Recognized within the Industrial Water industry for technical leadership.
  • Skilled in developing water treatment models using advanced techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills—verbal, written, and presentation.
  • Committed to innovation and continuous improvement.
