Scope of Position

The Vice President, Treasury provides executive oversight and leadership in the areas of financial management, planning, reporting, capital financing, risk management, and treasury management and is responsible for the overall asset and financial and project management for major growth, capital, and redevelopment projects.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President Finance, the incumbent will oversee all treasury activities, including cash management and forecasting, short-term investing, financial risk management and ensuring adequate liquidity for the Company and its operating subsidiaries. With a focus on department wide process and procedure improvements, the Vice President, Treasury will lead and support key initiatives and improvement in reporting and communications to internal and external stakeholders (senior management, Board, investors).


Functional Tasks

  • Develop treasury strategy and overall development of the department commensurate with corporate growth and evolving complexity. Execute on strategic treasury initiatives as needed including funding strategies, capital optimization initiatives, capital raising initiatives, balance sheet transactions, rating agency presentations, M&A activities.
  • Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of policies, procedures and practices for liquidity and funding management, cash and investment portfolio management, asset-liability management, interest rate management, financial modeling and analysis, capital management and transfer pricing.
  • Monitor counterparty risk, analysis of cash forecasts, market/economic pattern and trend analysis; maintenance of banking and financial assurance relationships; assessment of banking rules and restrictions; ensuring compliance with financial risk management policy.
  • Continually review and assess financial risk exposures and recommend/ develop risk management strategies including the development of financial risk management policies and guidelines; monitoring and reporting of financial risk exposures; managing appropriate risk mitigation.
  • Participate in fundraising efforts in capital markets through either bank debt or equity finance, maintaining relationships with lenders and investors, credit analysts and credit rating agencies.

Preferred Experience / Education

The following indicates specific industry, academic and functional experience/qualifications that are important to the successful achievement of the identified responsibilities and performance deliverables.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the treasury department of a fast-paced, large multi-entity corporation.
  • Post-secondary degree or relevant combination of education and experience, ideally a CPA designation.
  • An analytical, detail oriented, team player that adapts well to change, brings a proactive ‘own it, solve it’ mindset with an ability to navigate complex financial scenarios.
  • A thorough understanding of complex credit facilities and financial instruments such as derivatives and hedges.
  • Superior communication skills with an ability to translate the technical language of Treasury in order to educate both Management and Board regarding risks and risk mitigation
  • Ability to use technical skills and sound judgment to make regular financial, personnel and policy judgments.
